Labor won't endorse Pembroke candidate
Posted
The Labor Party in Tasmania has defended its decision not to endorse a candidate for the Upper House seat of Pembroke.
A by-election is being held in August to replace former Labor MP Allison Ritchie.
Party secretary John Dowling says Labor has always been selective about running candidates for the Legislative Council.
"We've only contested I think 11 out of the last 60 council elections over the last 20 years," he said.
"What we want to do is put our strong Franklin candidates, that's David O'Byrne and Kate Churchill into Franklin, the entire seat of Franklin at the next state election."
